Origin:

The formation of the Centre for Social Empowerment, Taiwan(COSET) reflects the characteristic and achievement of contemporary Taiwanese society. COSET is established in April 2005 and is meant for a research-centered think tank, providing consulting and research exchange for all walks of life; with the hope to enhance the development and the growth of civil society in Taiwan. COSET has three core directions for organizational development:

1. COSET will launch a series of research on the Third Sector, encompassing theories and practices, publish research results, and build up database on related issues, hoping to make CTS a node for community and family studies.

2. COSET will promote various interactions between the academics and the participators, through the introduction of new concepts, capacity-building, facilitation of legal environment, and public policy agenda setting, hoping to enrich the knowledge for community and family studies.

3. COSET will make continuous efforts to engage global research network. According to different public issues, it intends to create strategic alliances, by combining the media and the related public-interest organizations, hoping to advocate and generate various public issues beneficial to a civil society.

Vision:

COSET hopes to combine the theories and practices on social empowerment, marching towards to the reinventing of civil society. COSET is designed as the vehicle for community and family interaction and intends to become a domestic forum for education/training, policy consulting and advocacy in Taiwan.

Tasks:

1. To launch a series of research on the field of community and family.

2. To build databases on related issues.

3. To provide professional consulting and services.

4. To issuing publications and generate new thinking.

5. To promote cooperation among the academics and the practitioners; to cultivate professional human resource.
