CONFERENCE REPORT
Chang Jung Christian University was honored to host the 2009 Management Conference of the Association of Christian Universities and Colleges in Asia (ACUCA), which addressed the theme of “Service Learning and International Cooperation.” A total of 94 participants, representing 39 institutions and 7 countries, attended this year’s conference, which took place October 28-30, 2009. Service to society has always been a key goal of Christian universities and colleges, and many ACUCA member institutions have exceptional records in this area. This year’s conference explored how service learning can be applied and advanced within the context of Christian higher education, in particular through channels of international cooperation. The conference provided participants with opportunities to examine contemporary models of service learning, to exchange experiences in the practical implementation of service learning, and to discuss how the effectiveness of service learning programs can be increased. The conference also allowed participants to reflect on the potential for expansion and innovation in the area of international service learning and to renew their commitment to partnership in service. It is hoped that, as the vision for international partnership in service is communicated on our individual campuses and developed into concrete programs of cooperation, ACUCA member institutions will continue to pioneer new avenues of effective service learning in Asia and beyond.
